Academic activities:

(A)               M. Phil Course:

M. Phil. Course in Policy Research forms the most important component of the Centre’s academic activities. Its purpose is three-fold : -

(1)               To raise the standard of research in social science subjects;

(2)                To train scholars for policy oriented inter-disciplinary research; and

(3)               To provide facilities to the students of social sciences to acquire the minimum qualification and training for teaching jobs in the universities and colleges in their respective subjects.

M.Phil course in Policy Research had started functioning from January 1989 with the help of teachers from U.T.D. and Government Colleges, Rewa.

 The following is the list of M.Phil. students who have passed out from the Centre  in respective years indicated below:-

 

COURSE STRUCTURE:

 

The M.Phil programme is spread over a period of one year, divided into two semesters each of six months duration. The evaluation of the course shall be done through letter grades on a ten point  scale. The evaluation at Seminar will be done internally by the faculty members of the Centre.The semester wise description  of the papers is as given below:-

 

                        FIRST SEMESTER:

 

                        1.Computer Application.

2.The Theory of Policy Research. 

                        3.Optional paper (Any one): -                                   

                                                Group. A. Tribal Studies                                   

                                                Group. B. Reservation Policy                                   

                                                Group. C. Education Policy 

                        SECOND SEMESTER: 

1.      Methods of Social Research & Statistics 

2.      Dissertation 

 M.Phil. Committee:

 

An M. Phil. Committee on Policy Research, consisting of teachers form the various social science disciplines in the U.T.D. and local Govt Colleges, was constituted to frame the syllabus and rules for admission in accordance with the Ordinance of the University for the M. Phil. Degree.  

 The M. Phil. Programme of the Centre shall be conducted   by an M. Phil. Committee, constituted in the following manner:  

1.      Director/Head of the Department (Chairman)

2.      Such teachers of the Centre or of an allied department as may be nominated by the Kulpati on recommendation of the Director/Head of the department.

3.      An external expert, nominated by the Kulpati on the

      recommendation of the Director/Head of the department.

The term of the M. Phil. Committee shall be two years. M.Phil. Committee shall perform the following functions: - 

(1)      Recommend the names of students for admission to the M.Phil. Course.

(2)      Draw up the syllabus of the M. Phil. Course for consideration of the Board of Studies/appropriate authority of the University.

(3)      Recommend the names of supervisors of the M. Phil. Candidates and approve topics for dissertation.

(4)      Plan and organise seminars and assess the performance of candidates therein.

(5)      Propose a panel of three examiners for each course / dissertation for the consideration of the examination committee.

(6)       Recommend the award of fellowships.

(7)      Make such recommendations to the Academic Council/Standing Committee as may be necessary for conducting this course, and

(8)      Any other function assigned to it by the Kulpati.
