STATUTE OF JAWAHARLAL NEHRU CENTRE FOR POLICY RESEARCH A.P.S. UNIVERSITY, REWA
(M.P.) AS PREPARED IN THE LIGHT OF THE OBSERVATION OF THE COORDINATION COMMITTEE
AND APPROVED BY THE M.PHIL. COMMITTEE OF THE CENTRE IN ITS MEETING ON 29th
JULY,1989.

  1. Name :-
      The name of the Centre shall be "Jawaharlal Nehru Cente for Policy Research". It will be a research department       
      under the Faculty of Social Science and shall be multidisciplinary in nature.

  2. Aims and objectives :-
      The aims and objectives of the Centre shall be :
      (i) To undertake, promote and coordinate policy oriented research in social science with special emphasis on the
           problems of M.P. and the  neighbouring regions and thus to help in the improvement of public policy making and
           its implementation.
      (ii) To provide academic and professional training and guidance to agencies / institutions and scholars, engaged in
           advanced study and research in social sciences.
           With a view to achieve these aims and objectives, the Centre shall :
             (i) Organise and conduct programmes of advanced training courses and summer schools for research students
                  and University and college teachers with a view to improve - the quality of teaching and research in the
                  Social Sciences.
             (ii) Institute fellowships and scholarships;
             (iii) Prepare, print and publish papers, periodicals and books;
             (iv) Offer, on request, consultancy services to Central and State Government, technical institutions and business
                   organisations, industries or trade;
             (v) Act as a clearing house of ideas and information on research in social sciences with special emphasis on the
                  problems of M.P. and neighbouring regions and to maintain a Data Bank;
             (vi) Invite social scientists and research scholars from India and abroad to deliver lectures or conduct research;
             (vii) Organise meetings, lectures, seminars and symposia and conference; and
             (viii) Collaborate with other agencies, institutions and organisations in India and abroad in furtherance of the
                     aforesaid objectives.

  3. Research Activity :- General
      The Centre shall institute an inter-disciplinary M.Phil. Course, Plan research for Ph.D. degree or for higher level
      and with the assistance of the state Government and other funding, agencies, take up independent projects of
      research, having a bearing on the problems of M.P. and the neighbouring regions.

  4. Ph.D. / D. Lit. programmes :-
      Ph..D. / D. Litt. Programme of the Centre will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance
      No.30 and 31 of the University. However, the subjects registered for the degree will have a bearing on the problems
     of M.P. and the neighbouring regions involving policy oriented study.

  5. Advisory Body :-
     (1) The centre shall have an advisory body, consisting of the following - six members :
                     (i) Vice-Chancellor or his nominee (chairman)
                     (ii) Dean, Faculty of Social Science.
                     (iii) Two public men/experts of the region to be nominated by the Vice/Chanceller in consultation with the
                           Director;     
                     (iv) One representative of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) New Delhi.
                      (v) Director of the Centre who will be the Member Secretary of the Advisory Body.
      (2) The term of the Advisory Body shall be of two years.
      (3) The function of the Advisory Body shall be to review the research activities of the centre and offer its advice and
            submit its recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor.

  6.  The academic and supporting staff posts and their number would be subject to the sanction and specifications of the
       funding body or bodies and the university. The minimum essential qualifications for the academic and supporting staff
       would be such  as laid down by the University from time to time.
