The Computer Centre was established in 1985-86, in the University by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi with the aim of providing job oriented Computer Courses and employment oriented programmes to the students of Vindhya Region. Initially ICIM DRS-300 Mini Computer System was installed with other peripheral devices including Line Printers etc. At present Computer Centre have more than 60 Pentium IV powerful Personal Computers, 3 Servers, Fast Speed Printers and other peripheral devices. Computer Centre conducts training programs for university/college teachers, employees and students, besides computing and software development for the University.
Major Activities of Computer Centre
The major activities of computer centre are :
(i) University Examination Result Processing
The complete result processing task for university examination is being carried out in-house by the computer centre from the year 2001. For this, purpose the required sofware have been developed, tested and implemented by the computer centre. This task needs frequent changes in the software due to change in the examination scheme by the university to make its curriculum latest. The result is processed for approximately 70000 students of different courses/programmes. From the year 2008-2009, the university had started to provide marksheet with photo of student.
(ii) Campus Wide LAN
Establishment of campus wide LAN, “APSULAN” have been started by the computer centre in the year 2005 with the support of UGC under the grant “upgradation of computer centre”. Many departments are connected through this “APSULAN”.
(iii) Maintenance/administration of Servers
In house proxy server to share internet facility is maintained by the computer centre. This facility have been extended to other university teaching departments/administrative departments through campus wide APSULAN.
(iv) Computing Support to University Administration
The facilities and infrastructure of computer centre is also used for various computing requirement of the university administrative departments. The software for payroll system have been designed and developed by the computer centre. It includes payroll, payslip, annual statement for income tax, university budget and annual accounts etc. The required modification/updation in the software is being carried out by the centre.
