The Department of Physical Education and Sports Science was established in 1968 to organize physical education and sports activities in the University. The Department has a distinct identity of its own. The Courses being taught here include B.P.Ed. (2 years), B.P.Es. (03 years), M.P.Ed. (2 Years ), M.Phil and Ph.D. (According to UGC guidelines adopted by the University).
Objectives:
- To organize University Sports.
- Encourage values and principles in physical activity for health, recreation, challenge, self expression and social interaction.
- To impart knowledge and sports skills needed to manage physical and human resources.
- To prepare qualified physical education teacher/leader.
- To promote diversity in teaching.
- Coaching and managing sports and recreational activities.
- Organization of inter departmental, inter district, inter division, inter Collegiate, inter state, inter University, East Zone Inter University and All India (National University Games) Competition training and coaching of University teams in various games and sports for inter university and other competitions.
The Department manages the University stadium and Gymnasium. The Viewer's gallery has seating arrangement for about 10,000 viewers. There are two pavilions and one Modern Gymnasium besides the Directorate, University Sports teaching department. The students get attracted to physical exercise infrastructure of the stadium which was noticed by BCCI and our stadium has been selected for Ranji and Vizzy trophy matches. More than 15 students were selected as sports officers in higher education college services though MPPSC, 03 students were selected, UPPSC as lecturers at the district institute of education training, 03 students were selected in UP College Services, during 2018-19.
Students of the department have successfully participated in national, All India and east zone inter university sports events during the session 2019-2020 :

- Cross country (W) (Vishakhapatanam) and
- Aquatics (M &W) Jalandhar.
Our department has organized various prominent tournaments in the session 2019-2020:
- East Zone Inter University Cricket (Women) Tournament 5th to 14 January 2020 ,
- State Inter University Cricket (Men) 18th to 21st January,
- All India Circlestyle kabaddi (Men) was Proposed from 01/02/2020 to 04/02/2020.
- Athletics M&W Divisional Level 5. Cricket Men divisional Level
