aps imgWell known freedom fighter Captain  Awadhesh Pratap Singh decided to establish a university for higher education considering the lack of opportunities for education in the Vindhya region. After independence when Captain Awadhesh Pratap Singh became the prime minister of Vindhya Pradesh, he transformed the Darbar Intermediate College into a Degree College. Subsequently,  he made continuous efforts on different levels to establish a university in Rewa but the required formalities couldn't be completed during his lifetime. In the year 1967, his worthy son,  Govind Narayan Singh became the Chief Minister of this region. He was well acquainted with his father's dream. He explored the government documents during his father's prime ministership as well as the accumulated amount of 30 lakh Rupees for the establishment of the university.  Later on, he proposed the establishment of Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa before his council of ministers. The proposal was happily accepted. Inspite of a few protest regarding the naming of the university, on the insistence of Pandit Dwarika Prasad Mishra, the University was named as proposed. On 20th July 1968, the university started functioning.During it's initial years the university started functioning with limited resources but today it has transformed into a grand institution. Presently the university has 16 teaching departments, 52 graduate, post graduate and doctoral programmes, more than 5000 students on campus and more than 1,50,000 students in the university jurisdiction and more than 235 affiliated colleges that prove its grand stature.

In 55 years of its existence,  the university has earned name and fame not only in this region but also in the entire country. The students from this university are adorning various positions in India and abroad and thus earning fame for this university.

The entire university family expressed their deep sense of gratitude towards Captain Awadhesh Pratap Singh and Shri Govind Narayan Singh and all the foundation stones of this university. Prof. Rajkumar Acharya, the present Vice Chancellor of the university remarked that it is due to our worthy ancestors like Captain Awadhesh Pratap Singh, that our fellow country men are gradually moving ahead on the path of progress.

A women and girls common room in our university campus is a dedicated space for female students, faculty, and staff to gather, socialize, and study in a safe and comfortable environment. The common room also provides a sense of community and belonging for women and girls on campus. It can be a place where they can meet and connect with other like-minded individuals, form friendships and networks, and support each other in their academic and personal pursuits.
