The Department of English was established in 1989 with a purpose to impart quality teaching in the area of English literary studies, communication skills and translation studies. Known for academic excellence, the Department of English grows students with refinement in language, literature and their overall personality development.  The Department has bagged a number of UGC projects. The Department brings out its journal 'Zenith'. The research output of the Department in terms of PhD theses, research papers and books are remarkable in qualitative terms. The faculty of the department represents the university in various national committees, provincial boards of studies and editorial boards. 

The department offers BA Hons (English), MA and Ph.D. Programmes.

Regular organization of seminars, symposia and lectures is an important feature of the Department of English. The faculty participates in national seminars at various places with the students. The Department of English carries out social and charity work regularly. The students of the Department are mostly placed in the field of education. Some of them have made a name for themselves in state and national services.
