The department (erstwhile known as Computer Centre) was established in 1985-86, in the university by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi with the aim of providing job-oriented computer courses and employment-oriented programs to the students of Vindhya region. In the beginning the department was headed by Prof. S.P. Agrawal, who contributed immensely to its firm establishment and development. Initially ICIM DRS 300 Mini computer System was installed with other peripheral devices including line printers. The established computer centre was upgraded in the year 2000 by the UGC. In the year 2017 the University has renamed it Computer Centre as Department of Computer Application. At present the department has two computer labs equipped with 107 latest computers, printers and other peripheral devices. The department conducts training programs for university/college teachers, employees and students, besides computing and software development for the university.
BCA program was started in the year 2006-2007 on Self-supporting basis (Ordinance number 120). Considering the demand of students, the University has started Master of Computer Application (MCA) course in the year 2013-14 (Ordinance number 165). The MCA course got approval from AICTE, New Delhi from session 2015-16. Apart from these courses 12 short term computer courses are also offered as per demand of students (Ordinance number 95). There are 379 students studying in the department in the session 2023-24.
The three year BCA program has been started in the year 2006-2007 on self supporting basis (Ordinance number 120). Looking to the demand of students the University has started Master of Computer Application (MCA) course in the year 2013-14 (Ordinance number 165). The MCA course got approval from AICTE, New Delhi from session 2015-16. Apart from these courses 12 short term computer courses are also offered as per demand of students (Ordinance number 95). Presently BCA(Hons) programme is of four years duration in NEP. MCA programme is currently in CBCS mode.
